ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
This exhibit is dedicated to the Royal Air Force. It is a tribute on canvas to British aviation engineers and pilots, and to their determination in the fight for their country. On this, the 100th anniversary of World War I, Pekarek's paintings take us back to that era and chart the development of the RAF up to 1965. They also remind us of the part played by Czechoslovak pilots in World War II RAF units during the Battle of Britain. Over 700 pilots (and over 1700 other staff) were in the 310th through to the 313th Czechoslovak squadrons of the RAF. Some of the paintings are inspired by THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF Ladislav Sitensky, a WW2 photographer and member of the technical staff with the 312th squadron RAF.
